Why your vents smell musty in summer
If your vents smell musty every summer, your AC system may be the source of the problem. Atlanta’s hot, humid weather keeps your evaporator coil damp for long periods, creating the right conditions for mold, bacteria, and buildup to develop.
When your AC turns on, air moves across those damp surfaces and carries the odor throughout your home. The smell is not coming from the vents themselves. It starts inside the HVAC system, where simple sprays and air fresheners only mask the problem instead of addressing what is causing it.

We treat a UV lamp as part of your system, not something bolted on after the fact. Before we quote a price, we look at what’s inside your air handler and figure out where the lamp needs to go.

We can also add a duct lamp
It treats the air instead of the coil, but a small home lamp doesn’t do much on its own. We’ll be upfront about that.
We swap the bulb once a year
Its output fades over time, so we replace it during a regular maintenance visit, no extra trip needed.
We protect nearby parts
UV light can wear down wiring and plastic nearby, so we shield anything sitting close to the beam.
A UV lamp isn’t the fix for every air problem.
Dust and pollen? That’s a job for air filtration, not a UV lamp. A damp whole house? Start with a humidifier or dehumidifier. And if it’s mold, that’s specialist work we don’t handle.
What goes into the costing of a UV lamp installation
Three factors set the number, and each one comes from what a technician finds during the survey, not a flat rate quoted sight unseen.
You get the figure in writing before anything is ordered. When the lamp can go in during a visit we’re already making, we schedule it that way.
Placement
A coil lamp mounts inside the air handler and requires a clear beam path and a power source, which your equipment may or may not already have.
Coil size
A wider coil face may take two lamps instead of one to get full coverage, which changes the parts cost.
Bulb replacement
The bulb is an ongoing cost rather than a one-time one, since it’s swapped about once a year to keep its output up.
A coil lamp or an air-stream lamp?
There are two places to mount a UV lamp inside a system, and each one does a different job. One treats the wet surfaces where growth develops. The other treats the air moving through the system. Most Atlanta homes benefit more from the first, so here’s the direct comparison.

What we do differently with UV
We aim it at the growth, not at the airflow
A lamp bolted anywhere in the duct looks the same on an invoice. We measure the coil face, set the beam to cover the wet metal and the pan beneath it, and shield the wiring and flexible parts that end up sitting inside that light.
We say what a home lamp will not do
Killing most spores in moving air takes far more exposure than a residential lamp delivers, and dead spores can still trigger an allergic reaction. So we treat UV as system hygiene, not air cleaning. If pollen is your complaint, we send you to filtration instead.
